2022년 ChatGPT가 세상에 공개되면서, 인공지능이 인간의 감각과 어떻게 소통할 수 있는지, 그리고 예술적 피드백이 가능한가에 대한 논의가 본격적으로 시작되었다. 작가는 뇌과학자 김대식 KAIST 교수, 최우정 작곡가(서울대학교 작곡과 교수), 김태용 영화감독, 김혜연 안무가, 김도형 디자이너 등과 함께 인공지능과 예술의 관계에 대한 대화를 나누던 중, 인공지능을 활용해 구현 가능한 예술 작품을 공동으로 기획하게 되었다.
인공지능과 인간의 사랑 이야기를 담은 이 오페라 작업은 인물 사진을 기반으로, 제작의 전 과정을 인공지능 기술을 활용해 완성했다. 오페라의 대사와 스토리라인, 음성, 음악, 딥페이크 영상과 배경 화면까지 모든 요소는 인공지능을 통해 생성되었다. 이를 통해 인공지능이 인간의 예술 창작 과정에서 하나의 도구로 등장할 때, 인간의 감각과 경험이 어떻게 변화할 수 있는지를 실험한다.

One Week is an opera project that emerged from discussions that intensified following the public release of ChatGPT in 2022, when questions surrounding how artificial intelligence might communicate with human sensibility—and whether it could offer artistic feedback—began to be seriously explored. During conversations on the relationship between artificial intelligence and art with neuroscientist Kim Daesik (Professor at KAIST), composer Choi Woo-jung (Professor of Composition at Seoul National University), film director Kim Tae-yong, choreographer Kim Hye-yeon, and designer Kim Do-hyung, Lee Wan initiated the collaborative planning of an artwork that could be realized through artificial intelligence.
This opera, which tells a love story between an artificial intelligence and a human, was developed entirely through artificial intelligence technologies, beginning with portrait photographs. Every element of the production—including the libretto and storyline, voice, music, deepfake video, and background imagery—was generated using artificial intelligence. Through this process, the work experiments with how human perception and experience may be transformed when artificial intelligence enters the realm of artistic creation as a tool.
