작가가 수집한 여러 개의 사물들의 무게를 재고 그 평균무게(5.06kg)에 맞추어 자르고 결합하여 재가공시킨 작품이다. 사물이 가지고 있는 본래의 모습은 사라지고 오로지 ‘무게’라는 물리적이고 사회적 의미가 은유적으로 표현된 하나의 기준에 맞추어 획일화됩니다.
작가는 ‘하나의 기준에 완벽히 부합하는 사물들이 되었지만 하나의 전혀 쓸모없는 공정한 상태를 목격했으며 절단된 상처들만 가득하다.’ 라고 말한다.
The artist collected various everyday objects, measured their individual weights, and then cut and recombined them to match an average weight of 5.06 kg. In this process, the objects’ original forms disappear, and they are standardized according to a single criterion—weight—which functions as both a physical measure and a metaphor for social value.
The artist describes the result as follows: “They have become objects that perfectly conform to a single standard, yet what emerges is a completely useless state of fairness—one filled only with the scars left by cutting.”
